ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (January 30, 2008) – The historic AAA Four-Diamond Casa Monica Hotel, a Kessler Collection hotel, is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas W. Cherniavsky as general manager. Cherniavsky supersedes former general manager Marc Bauer, who has been named general manager of the Bohemian Hotel at Biltmore Village, a new Kessler Collection property in Asheville, NC, opening in fall 2008.  A veteran in the hospitality industry, Cherniavsky brings over 32 years of hospitality experience to the Casa Monica Hotel. In this role, he is responsible for all daily hotel operations, including overseeing its luxurious guestrooms, the award-winning 95 Cordova Restaurant, Café Cordova and more. 

 

Cherniavsky comes to the property most recently from the 345-room Wyndham Westshore Hotel in Tampa, FL, where he was the interim general manager responsible for overseeing multiple projects, including an $18 million renovation and hotel upgrade.

 

His longest tenure was during his 22-year role as Vice President & General Manager of the 60-acre, 475-room Hawk's Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. There, he led 400 employees through improvement programs, renovations, and expansions. The property also received the notable Stars of the Industry award from AH&MA (now the AH&LA) for its employee recognition programs under his direction.

 

Prior to his appointment at Hawk's Cay Resort, he was a financial controller at the Jekyll Island Hilton in Jekyll Island, GA as well as at the American Motor Inns, Inc. in Roanoke, VA.   Cherniavsky graduated from Paul Smiths College in Paul Smiths, NY with a degree in Hospitality Management. He also completed the General Manager's Professional Development Program at Cornell University and is a Certified Hospitality Administrator (C.H.A.) and serves on many Florida tourism boards and lodging associations.
